A commercial country music radio station licensed to Medina, Ohio, and owned by Rubber City Radio Group, Inc. Operating at 94.9 FM, the station primarily serves the Akron metro area with a signal also audible in Greater Cleveland and Canton. Studios are located in Akron, with the transmitter situated in neighboring Copley Township. Programming is available both over-the-air and online. The station's lineage dates to October 17, 1960, when it signed on as WDBN under license to Barberton, Ohio. Early in its history, the station was among the first adopters of the beautiful music format, which minimized spoken announcements and excluded vocal music. Programmer Jim Schulke, later a significant figure in the format's national development, refined many of his philosophies there. WDBN was also an early FM stereo broadcaster, achieving that capability by November 1961, and one of the first stations in the Cleveland market to fully automate its programming, having installed automation equipment in 1964. By 1966 it had built a substantial ratings presence, and its grandfathered 188 kW signal—well above the FCC's later 50 kW limit for Class B stations—allowed it to be heard throughout Northeast Ohio and occasionally as far as Flint, Michigan. The station carries local personalities including a morning drive show co-hosted by Scott Wynn and Sarah Kay, with additional dayparts staffed by on-air talent. Signature programming includes contests, community events, and a text club for listener interaction.
