The station underwent several name changes, including Rádio Cajuti in 1937, reflecting a period of ownership by the Tijuca Tênis Clube. Later, it became Rádio Mundial after being acquired by the Diário da Noite do Rio de Janeiro in 1948. Ownership subsequently passed to Organizações Victor Costa in 1954, and then was leased to Alziro Zarur, founder of the Legião da Boa Vontade, in 1959. A significant period in the station's history occurred in 1966 when it was sold to a larger broadcasting network, accompanied by the rest of OVC. The appointment of Big Boy as director in 1966 marked a shift towards a music-focused format, competing with other stations targeting a younger audience. Throughout the 1970s, the station embraced black music and rock. Following Big Boy’s passing in 1977, the broadcaster experienced a decline in popularity during the 1980s, coinciding with the rise of FM radio stations. In 1993, the 860 kHz frequency was repurposed for a news radio station. The station continues to operate, maintaining a connection to its rich historical legacy and a commitment to listener-driven programming.
