A digital HD radio subchannel of WFDU, a public radio station licensed to Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. The parent station WFDU operates at 89.1 MHz and shares the frequency with WNYU-FM under an agreement with New York University and the Federal Communications Commission, with each station maintaining independent transmitters, studios, and programming. The HD2 subchannel, branded as "Eclectic Sound," launched in August 2015 alongside a third subchannel serving as the student voice of FDU. WFDU's transmitter is located on the Armstrong Tower in Alpine, New Jersey — the historic site of W2XMN, the world's first FM station, built by FM technology pioneer Major Edwin Howard Armstrong. At 3,000 watts with its elevated antenna height, the station's signal reaches a potential audience of 8.2 million people within a 60-mile radius. WFDU has been in operation since 1971, providing public radio programming to the greater New York metropolitan area.
