On August 24, 1984, it adopted the WJJR call letters. During the late 1980s it operated as "Easy Contemporary JJR" under an easy listening format mixing instrumental arrangements of popular songs with soft adult contemporary vocals. In 1991, the station's studios served as a filming location for scenes in the science fiction film Time Chasers.
