A classic rock and oldies-formatted FM station broadcasting from the Northern California region of Siskiyou County, operating at 100.1 MHz with a city of license in Dunsmuir, California. The station first signed on the air on December 8, 1992 under the call letters KRKD before ownership passed to Big Tree Communications in 1997, at which point the current KZRO-FM call sign was adopted and the format shifted to a "rockin' oldies" orientation emphasizing classic and rock-based programming. The station is independently owned and operated by Dennis Michael Crepps, who also serves as general manager, program director, and lead on-air talent under the professional name Dennis Michaels. Crepps acquired the station under his Z-Channel Radio LLC banner sometime in the 2010s. The station operates under the slogan "We're in it for the music, not the money," a philosophy reflected in its unusually minimal commercial structure: only two commercial breaks per hour during weekday programming. Weekend programming draws on a roster of nationally syndicated specialty shows, including Time Warp with Bill St. James, Sammy Hagar's Top Rock Countdown, The Acoustic Storm, Blues Deluxe, Little Steven's Underground Garage, Floydian Slip, Get the Led Out, Hot Rod Radio, and The Car Show, among others. In 2021, KZRO became Siskiyou County's sole remaining locally run radio station following the gradual closure or format change of competing stations in the region, including KSYC-FM, KMJC-FM, KMSJ-LP, and KSYC-AM. Several of those frequencies were subsequently taken over by Jefferson Public Radio or K-LOVE affiliates. The station continues to serve Northern California audiences as an independent community broadcaster.
