The station broadcasts NPR news programming during morning and afternoon drive times and selected weekend hours, with the remainder of the schedule comprising classical music programming and jazz and other genres on weekends. The station simulcasts on an affiliated station serving a neighboring region, extending public radio access across a broader area. It operates as a Class C1 station with maximum effective radiated power of 100,000 watts, utilizing HD Radio technology with an HD2 subchannel carrying spoken word programming from NPR, the Public Radio Exchange, and the BBC World Service. The station signed on the air in 1982 and subsequently matched its call sign with its sister television station in 1993.
