A commercial radio station with a long history rooted in local ownership and community broadcasting. The station began its operations on 1 October 1972 under the call letters KBOW-FM, originally serving as the FM counterpart to an established AM station. The current call sign references the regional mining heritage for which the community is historically known. Longstanding local ownership under Richard Miller characterized much of the station's early decades, with operational control transitioning to new ownership in 1994. Currently employing the syndicated Custom Rock Hits music format and operating as an affiliate for network news programming, the station remains engaged with community athletics and local programming efforts.
