The radio station of the University of Massachusetts Boston, broadcasting a noncommercial public radio format. Programming features Americana, blues, roots, and folk music hosted by station staff on weekdays, with weekend concentration on traditional folk, Celtic, blues, and world music including syndicated programming. The station operates at modest power due to crowding on the noncommercial FM dial in New England, but extends its signal coverage through a network of eight repeater stations across eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. HD Radio technology enables high-quality digital signal transmission, and streaming is available online at multiple bit rates for different connection speeds. Since 1998, the station has sponsored an annual live music festival, initially called the Boston Folk Festival through 2009 before being renamed the WUMB Music Fest.
