Operating on 880 kHz, a clear-channel AM frequency, this station was founded by Benny Bee, Sr. and first signed on the air on February 14, 1979, originally broadcasting on 1400 kHz as a Class IV local station. It is licensed to serve Whitefish, Montana, and is owned by Bee Broadcasting, Inc. A major technical upgrade in 1985 moved the station from the congested 1400 kHz local channel to its current position at 880 kHz, increasing daytime power to 10,000 watts and significantly expanding coverage across the Flathead Valley and into British Columbia, Canada. As 880 AM is a clear-channel frequency dominated by a New York City station, KJJR reduces its power at night to avoid skywave interference. The original call letters were chosen by Program Director Dave Shannon as a tribute to the legendary KJR in Seattle. The station airs a news/talk format and carries nationally syndicated programs from hosts including Dan Bongino, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Michael Savage, Ben Shapiro, Joe Pags, and Bill Cunningham. A prominent test conducted on January 8, 2022, arranged by Chief Engineer Todd Clark, utilized the station's full 10,000-watt daytime power at midnight local time, generating reception reports from listeners as far away as Finland (4,346 miles), Sweden, and Norway. These tests have established the station's standing in the DX monitoring community as a reliable test platform for demonstrating the atmospheric propagation capabilities of the AM band.
