One of the oldest continuously operating radio stations in Florida, first licensed in 1922 by the Tampa Times newspaper on the 365 and 485-meter wavelengths. The call sign WDAE was randomly assigned from a sequential roster available at the time. Over the following decades the station shifted frequencies multiple times, eventually settling at 640 AM before moving to its current 620 AM position. Today it operates under iHeartMedia ownership broadcasting a sports radio format. Licensed to St. Petersburg and serving the wider Tampa Bay region, the station transmits at up to 11,280 watts daytime under special temporary authority from the Federal Communications Commission, a grant first issued in 1983 to address interference from high-powered Cuban broadcasts on the same frequency. Studios and offices are located in Clearwater, Pinellas County, while the transmitter sits near the Gandy Bridge in St. Petersburg. Weekday programming includes local morning and afternoon drive shows alongside syndicated content from Fox Sports Radio. A simulcast is available on FM translator W237CW at 95.3 MHz, with additional carriage on the HD3 digital subchannel of co-owned WRUB 95.7 FM.
