Red River Radio is a regional public radio network covering northwest Louisiana, southern Arkansas, eastern Texas, and the southeasternmost corner of Oklahoma, broadcasting to communities throughout the valley of the Red River of the South. The network operates five stations and is headquartered inside a renovated church building on the campus of Louisiana State University Shreveport on Youree Drive. Its coverage area is among the largest for public radio in the United States. The network is an affiliate of National Public Radio and carries a broad range of NPR programming, including Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, World Cafe, and Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me. Additional programming comes from Public Radio Exchange, including This American Life, and from American Public Media, including Marketplace Money, Performance Today, and The Splendid Table. Independently produced programs on the network include Art of the Song, Beale Street Caravan, Blues Before Sunrise, Bluegrass Breakdown, Classical Guitar Alive, Hearts of Space, Radiolab, and Snap Judgment. Red River Radio produces local news coverage on weekday mornings during Morning Edition. A community news initiative called the Community Correspondent program, pioneered by news producer Kate Archer in 2005, allows area residents to borrow equipment from the network to produce local stories for broadcast. Locally produced programs include Evening Jazz, hosted by Wally Derleth, which features big band, contemporary, and other jazz subgenres, as well as Blues After Hours. The network's journalism covers regional issues in agriculture, public health, emergency response, and economic development across the multi-state listening area.
