A student-operated, non-commercial FM station licensed to Henrietta, New York, owned by the Rochester Institute of Technology and broadcasting at 89.7 MHz. The station was established in 1961 as an AM outlet operating at 600 kHz when RIT was still situated in downtown Rochester; it relocated with the campus to Henrietta in 1968 and transitioned to FM in 1975. Studios are housed in the Student Alumni Union, where a dedicated facility known as Studio X was completed in 2015. The station programs an indie and alternative-leaning format supplemented by a broad range of student-hosted specialty shows spanning hip-hop, R&B, world music, jazz, reggae, classical, electronica, punk, ska, blues, metal, and Latin genres. Its long-running Reggae Sounds program is cited as the longest continuously running reggae broadcast in North America. Beyond music, the station serves as the flagship broadcaster for RIT Tigers men's ice hockey, with games simulcast locally on WHTK. An FCC-approved power increase in September 2023 raised the station's transmitter output from 910 watts to 3,000 watts, extending its coverage across greater Rochester.
