A commercial country music radio station licensed to Highland, New York, operating as the primary country format outlet for the mid-Hudson Valley region. The station broadcasts at 330 watts ERP from a tower near Illinois Mountain in Marlborough, New York, sharing infrastructure with sister station WBWZ. It is owned and operated by iHeartMedia, Inc., with studios located in Arlington, New York. The station was founded in September 1989 by apple orchard owner William H. Walker, who chose the call letters as a tribute to his three children, Rachel, William Jr., and David. WRWD adopted a country format at a time when the format had seen limited success in the Hudson Valley, with most programming initially delivered via satellite under morning personality Ken Gonyea. A significant programming shift occurred in 1990 when Walker ceded operational control to Thom Williams, who became morning host and program director and redirected the station toward a more current country sound. An AM simulcast was added through WWLE (1170 AM) in Cornwall-on-Hudson, and FM translators were established in Newburgh, Middletown, and Kingston, though most of these were discontinued or repurposed by 2000. In 1996, both WRWD-AM-FM and WBWZ were sold to Hudson Valley Radio Partners before eventual acquisition by iHeartMedia. The station currently airs programs syndicated through the iHeartMedia network, including morning and overnight programming.
