Operating since April 26, 1948, the station began as an AM carrier current facility broadcasting from dormitory buildings on multiple Rutgers campuses. FM operations commenced January 27, 1974, on 88.7 MHz with 1350 watts ERP. The station features free-form programming with diverse music genres including indie rock, alternative rock, heavy metal, electronic, rap, and hip-hop, with specialty shows focusing on particular music brands. Sports programming has been a major component since 1954, covering Rutgers football, basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and wrestling.
