A 24-hour listener-supported noncommercial radio station broadcasting a classical music format at 90.5 FM. The station began broadcasting in December 1976 as part of the University of Louisville and was reassigned its current call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on March 19, 1982. Along with sister stations WFPL and WFPK, the station broadcasts an HD Radio signal. All three stations have been licensed to the Louisville Public Media consortium — formerly known as Public Radio Partnership — since 1993, when the University of Louisville transferred the license. Prior to the transfer, the station unintentionally competed with WFPK for the local classical music audience. Programming focuses on classical music performance and arts coverage, featuring content such as recordings by the Louisville Chamber Choir, performances by visiting artists, and coverage of the Louisville Orchestra. The station also produces cultural journalism and music education content under the Louisville Public Media umbrella.
