KLBS 1330 AM

A regional AM station broadcasting at 1330 kHz from Los Banos, California, a city in Merced County in the San Joaquin Valley. The station holds strong ties to the local Portuguese-American community, as evidenced by its sponsor roster and community calendar, which consistently feature Portuguese fraternal organizations, churches, and cultural events. Sponsors include Portuguese national institutions such as the Five Wounds Portuguese National Church, the Portuguese Consulate in San Francisco, and Luso-American Financial, pointing to a programming orientation that serves the substantial Portuguese-descended agricultural communities of the Central Valley. The San Joaquin Valley, historically one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world, attracted large numbers of Portuguese immigrants — particularly from the Azores — beginning in the late nineteenth century and continuing through much of the twentieth. Communities in Merced and surrounding counties retain active Portuguese cultural organizations, and radio has long played a role in sustaining that cultural identity. The station is located at 401 Pacheco Blvd in Los Banos and can be contacted through multiple phone lines, including a dedicated request line. Its public inspection file is available online through the FCC's system. A sister station is also affiliated. The station lists a variety format, consistent with its community-oriented programming approach that likely includes music, local news, and cultural content relevant to the agricultural Central Valley.
