The station is owned by Bonneville International, a Salt Lake City–based broadcaster and subsidiary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which also owns several other major-market stations across the United States. Since signing on March 3, 1968 — originally under the tagline "The World's Most Beautiful Music" with a beautiful music format of orchestral and instrumental programming — the station has undergone multiple format changes over its decades of operation.
