The station traces its heritage to the legendary WTIX AM 690, a pioneering Top 40 outlet that dominated American radio from the 1950s through the 1980s and is recognized as the nation's first Top 40 station. The current FM station debuted in 1995 after its owner acquired the former country music outlet and transitioned it to its present classic hits format. The station's programming emphasis spans music from 1964 through 1980, with daily feature artist spotlights based on artist birthdays and musical history events. Thursday programming includes Beatles-focused content, while Sunday mornings feature a two-hour Beatles breakfast show followed by a 1970s-era Casey Kasem American Top 40 replay.
