KACU is a public radio station broadcasting at 89.5 MHz FM and affiliated with National Public Radio (NPR). It is owned and operated by Abilene Christian University (ACU), with students from the university comprising the primary on-air staff and news team. KACU holds the distinction of being the only public radio station serving the Abilene, Texas, market and the only station in the area broadcasting in high definition (HD Radio). The station has been in operation for several decades, with a 40-year sustainability campaign reflecting its long tenure as a public media institution in the region. As an NPR affiliate, KACU carries a combination of network news and public affairs programming alongside locally produced content, including regional news coverage relevant to the Abilene area and West Texas.
