Broadcasting at 102.7 FM with a classic hits format, the station has a long and varied history in the Terre Haute metropolitan area. It first signed on in 1961 under the call sign WPFR, making it one of the earlier FM outlets in the region. In 1983, when the companion AM station took the WPFR calls, the FM side became WPFR-FM and adopted a Top 40/CHR format branded as "Power 103." A brief Rock 40 experiment followed before the company entered bankruptcy and both stations went dark in 1991. Bomar Broadcasting purchased the 102.7 FM license in 1992, relaunching as WLEZ. The station returned to the air in September 1993 with a beautiful music format, then shifted toward soft adult contemporary programming by 1997, eventually sourcing content from the Jones Radio Network. In May 2003, Crossroads Communications acquired the station, renaming it WBOW-FM on September 1 of that year and branding it "Light Rock B102-7." The WBOW name had deep roots in the market, having previously been used on 1230 AM and 640 AM going back to 1927. When Midwest Communications purchased the station on October 26, 2012, for $1.3 million, the call letters changed to WDWQ and the format flipped to country as "Q102.7." On December 26, 2017, WDWQ switched to a classic hits format and reclaimed the WBOW call letters. The station is owned by Midwest Communications through its licensee Midwest Communications, Inc., and serves the surrounding community with local news coverage and community-oriented programming alongside its classic hits music schedule.
