A non-commercial, listener-supported public radio station broadcasting at 88.9 FM, licensed to Richmond, Kentucky, and owned by Eastern Kentucky University. It holds the distinction of being a charter member of National Public Radio and operates as a Class C1 station with an effective radiated power of 50,000 watts. The transmitter is situated off Igo Road near Interstate 75, and the signal covers northern, central, and eastern Kentucky, including the Lexington metropolitan area. The station broadcasts a news, talk, and information format, carrying flagship NPR programs as well as regionally focused journalism. Its coverage extends to Kentucky legislative and political reporting, state economic developments including coal production figures, and local public affairs.
