The station traces its origins to an FCC auction held in April 2012, during which United States CP, LLC was announced as the highest bidder for the 101.9 MHz frequency as part of Auction 93. A construction permit was filed in September 2012, and the call sign WJVR was assigned on October 9, 2012 — a designation chosen as a tribute to the Jackson River, which flows through both Covington and Clifton Forge. The station launched on October 12, 2012, and received its full FCC license the following month. Ownership transferred in 2014 when United States CP, LLC sold the station to Todd P. Robinson, Inc. for $30,000. The sale was finalized on July 31, 2014, with the station operating under the WVJT, LLC licensee.
