The station is owned by AVM Broadcasting LLC and operates primarily as an AM station at 1530 kHz, with its signal available around the clock via FM translator W243DO at 96.5 MHz, as the AM license restricts transmission to daytime hours only. Transmitter facilities, studios, and offices are situated on Picketville Road in the Biltmore neighborhood of Jacksonville. The station signed on October 26, 1987, under the call letters WJGR, and operated through several subsequent call sign changes — WJGC, WCRJ, and WOBS — before adopting the current WYMM designation in 2003. Prior to March 2014 the station broadcast as "La Poderosa" with a Regional Mexican music format.
