The station signed on in 1948 as KFRB at 1290 kHz, subsequently moving to 790 kHz in 1953, 900 kHz in 1954, and finally to its current 820 kHz frequency in 1981. KCBF serves as the exclusive radio home of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks hockey program and provides coverage of UAF men's basketball and select women's basketball games.
