KVRX is a student-run non-commercial radio station licensed to the University of Texas at Austin, broadcasting at 91.7 FM with an effective radiated power of 3,000 watts. Studios are located in the Hearst Student Media Building on the university campus at Whitis Avenue near Dean Keaton Street, while the transmitter is situated in East Austin off Harold Court. The station shares the 91.7 FM frequency with KOOP, a community station operated by the Texas Educational Broadcasting Cooperative. Under the time-share arrangement, KVRX students broadcast from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends, with KOOP filling the remaining daytime hours. KVRX also streams continuously online around the clock. The station's origins trace to 1986, when University of Texas students formed the Student Radio Task Force to advocate for a campus radio station. Broadcasting began in 1988 under the call sign KTSB via cable television narrowcast. The FCC approved the time-share agreement with KOOP in 1994, prompting the call sign change to KVRX — the original KTSB designation was already in use by an Iowa station. FM broadcasting on 91.7 commenced on November 15, 1994. The station's programming philosophy is reflected in its long-running slogan, "None of the Hits, All of the Time," emphasizing non-mainstream and independently produced music.
