The HD3 digital subchannel of WFDU (89.1 MHz), a public radio station licensed to Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. WFDU was founded in 1971 and operates studios on the university campus, with its transmitter located on the historic Armstrong Tower in Alpine, New Jersey — the site of W2XMN, the world's first FM station, constructed by FM technology pioneer Major Edwin Howard Armstrong. The station shares the 89.1 MHz frequency with WNYU-FM following negotiations between Fairleigh Dickinson University, New York University, and the Federal Communications Commission. Each station maintains separate transmitters, studio facilities, programming, and personnel. With a potential reach of 8.2 million people within a 60-mile radius, WFDU operates at 3,000 watts. In August 2015, WFDU launched two new HD digital channels: HD2, branded as "Eclectic Sound," and HD3, designated as "Student Voice of FDU," providing a platform for student-produced programming.
