The station first went on the air on December 7, 1984, as WKMD FM at 94.3 MHz, founded by Community Broadcasting Services of Loogootee. It shifted to 94.1 FM in August 1994, and was acquired by Hembree Communications in August 1997. The call letters changed to WRZR on January 1, 1998, and the station moved to its current 94.5 MHz frequency on August 19, 1998. Ownership passed through Daisy Holdings in May 2021 before transferring to Shake Broadcasting LLC in June 2022. The station carries programming from Local Radio Networks alongside its classic rock music format.
