The station's formal campus presence developed in the late 1940s through a program called Bowdoin-on-the-Air, which included a Radio Drama Workshop producing original student-written productions. A dedicated on-campus AM studio opened in December 1949 following a $4,000 gift from the Class of 1924, equipped with a transmitter and a direct line to WGAN in Portland. The station eventually transitioned to its current FM license at 91.1 MHz, housed in Coles Tower on the Bowdoin campus.
