Licensed by the Federal Communications Commission and affiliated with the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System in its early years, the station received its current FM license in November 1951 with 10 watts of effective radiated power. Over the subsequent decades, the station progressively upgraded its signal strength, studio facilities, and technical infrastructure.
