1:26 Voce 1 This is the VOCM Radio Network, Stingray Radio Stations. Local news now, a VOCM News Update. Your VOCM mornings, engaging, informative, and local. Jerry Lynn Mackey and Russell Bowers, 6 to 9 a.m. Weekdays, your VOCM.

1:47 Voce 2 I'm Richard Duggan. In the news, there were extensive backlogs on the TCH yesterday following a serious collision east of Goobies. The collision happened yesterday afternoon east of Jack's Pond near the Southern Harbor exit. Both lanes of the highway were shut down, resulting in traffic being reduced to a standstill for hours. The highway reopened after 7.30 last night. There's no word on the extent of any injuries at this time. All fuel prices are down slightly this morning. Gas is down by just over a cent and diesel has dropped by about two and a half cents. Furnace oil on the island has decreased by just over two cents and stove oil in most of Labrador has dropped by just under two cents. The minister responsible can't say whether housing the tenants currently living at Horizons 106 in the community will result in cost savings, but he believes it will be the best cost option. Government has already indicated that it plans to close Horizons 106 at the end of the year. A recent report from the Auditor General found that Horizons 106 was underused and cost taxpayers more than reported. it. The provincial government has now issued three requests for proposals to house people now living in the transitional facility in the community. They're seeking three separate options for people who require minimal, moderate, and 24-hour supportive care. Housing Minister Jody Wall says he believes changing to an in-community model will be cost-effective. I can't expect the

3:08 Voce 3 cost. That's to guess as to what it is. All I can say is that I'm confident with this process that we will get the best cost option. As I said, I want to do this right, and I want to follow the rules. And the Auditor General was very, very clear from her last report on 106 Horizons with respect to what wasn't done right. We will not be making those mistakes again. We're following the RFP with the procurement process, and that will ensure that we do get what we need, best bang for the buck.

3:37 Voce 2 NDP leader Jim Dinh says while he's pleased with the collaborative approach taken by the minister, he's concerned with the supports available.

3:44 Voce 3 There are models out there that I would have liked to have seen, whether you look at Indwell in Ontario, the Chesapeake Centre of Hope, or even look at the Stella Circle.

3:55 Voce 2 So they have supportive housing.

3:57 Voce 3 They have staffing there 24-7. There are programs available for those who want them, but people have that ability to come and go as they want. And they're not for profit. They're very much focused on the individuals. I'm not sure where this is going with regards to whether it's going to be for-profit, which at times I have a real issue with.

18:38 Voce 1 Some things just belong. Like the music, the stories, and yours Saturday morning. The Irish Newfoundland Show on VOCM.

30:51 Voce 2 VOCM News Update. I'm Richard Duggan. An investigation is ongoing following an incident on Nascopy Crescent in St. John's last night that resulted in the arrest of one person. The RNC responded around 7.30 p.m. after someone called to report lots of screaming before their phone line got disconnected. Police arrived on the scene in numbers due to what they say was a large number of people present. They arrested a 39-year-old man who had an active warrant. The investigation continues. A 30-year-old man is in custody after the RNC say he put up quite a struggle during his arrest. Police were called to a home on St. Clair Avenue just before 10 a.m. yesterday to reports of a man who was causing a disturbance, threatening people, and refusing to leave the area. After what's described as an extended struggle, the accused was arrested. The officers allege they were kicked and scratched during the altercation and one suffered minor injuries. The man has been charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer resisting arrest and assault with a weapon. He was held for court. All fuel prices are down slightly this morning. Gas is down by just over a cent and diesel has dropped by about two and a half cents. Furnace oil on the island has decreased by just over two cents and stove oil in most of Labrador has dropped by just under two cents. The provincial government has increased the one-time subsidy for those seeking fertility treatment. The funding is being increased from $20,000 to $29,000. Local obstetrician and associate professor of obstetrics

32:19 and gynecology at MUN, Dr. Sean Murphy, says anything to help reduce barriers for those

32:24 Voce 3 seeking fertility treatment is welcomed. Anything we can do to kind of remove obstacles to people accessing fertility care and good quality, high access fertility care is important. And this will help kind of move things forward in that direction. It'll remove another barrier to fertility care. And as we work towards having IVF in our own province, we'll continue to work with the minister and her team and NLHS to deliver that care here in the province. But in the meantime, it's a fantastic investment in families of our province. Dr. Dina Murphy with MUN's Obstetrics

32:53 Voce 2 and Gynecology Department calls the funding increase a good step forward. I mean, the ultimate

32:57 Voce 6 goal for us would be to offer the treatment here in Newfoundland. Traveling for IVF treatment is still quite stressful, being away from your support system. But I think it's a great step step forward in allowing the treatments to come here. And with the work we've been doing with the current government and previous governments as well, I think slowly we get further and closer and closer to having that here, which I think it's great for our patients. And it's, I mean, it's been the ultimate goal of both of us and other doctors in the past of bringing the service

33:27 Voce 2 here. So I think it is a great step forward. That's your news. Your weather is coming up

33:31 Voce 1 after this. This VOCM weather is brought to you by Vogue Optical, where your second pair is always free. Let Vogue Optical arrange your next eye exam today. Trust us, your eyes will thank you.
