The station broadcasts a format centered on Contemporary Christian worship music supplemented by a selection of Christian talk and teaching programs. It signed on the air at 89.9 MHz on October 1, 1989. The station's programming is characterized by its emphasis on praise and worship music, featuring prominent Contemporary Christian artists including Phil Wickham, Elevation Worship, and Chris Tomlin. The stated mission of the station centers on facilitating daily worship for listeners throughout the northern Lake Michigan region, with programming designed to provide a devotional experience throughout the broadcast day. In December 2015, the station expanded its reach when Good News Media acquired the silent WCZW 107.9 FM in Charlevoix, Michigan from Midwestern Broadcasting Company. The acquired station, which had previously simulcast the classic hits format of 107.5 WCCW-FM, was converted to a simulcast of WLJN-FM. The Charlevoix transmitter was assigned new call letters of WLJD, effective December 29, 2015, with the Federal Communications Commission officially acknowledging the change in August 2016. The dual-signal arrangement extends coverage to Charlevoix, providing Christian music programming to communities along the northwestern Michigan shoreline.
