WVEL

WVEL is AM 1140, a daytimer station licensed to Pekin, Illinois, and serving the Peoria metropolitan area. Known as “Central Illinois’ Christian Voice,” WVEL broadcasts an urban gospel format with some Christian talk and teaching shows, and streams through its official website. Owned by Cumulus Media, WVEL transmits 5,000 watts by day and must sign off at sunset because 1140 kHz is a clear channel frequency. The station signed on in 1946 and has used the WVEL call letters since 1979. Its site also promotes local events and contests, including gospel, rock, and country music-related listings.
