Founded in 1971 by John and Carol Babina, this station evolved from a community project into a dedicated classical music broadcaster. Initially established with board of education support and community donations, the station began regular broadcasts in 1974 with varied programming including rock, big band, and classical music. Following financial challenges in the early 1980s, it became a volunteer-run operation focusing exclusively on classical music. The station expanded through simulcasting to multiple locations across Connecticut. By 2003, growth necessitated relocation from educational facilities to dedicated office space. Transferred to municipal ownership in 2009, it has maintained consistent operations as a non-commercial, member-supported service for over four decades, sustained entirely by listener contributions and community support.
