Broadcasting since 1947, the station offers a format centered on gospel music, empowering talk shows, and news. The programming includes a mix of contemporary and traditional gospel music alongside talk programs that address topical issues, health, finance, and Christian lifestyle matters. The station has a notable history, having transitioned through various call signs and formats. It began broadcasting on October 27, 1947, under Biscayne Broadcasting Company. In 1957, it became WAHR and was an early platform for Larry King. Later, as WMET, it became one of the first full-time Spanish language radio stations in the early 1960s. After a call sign change to WMBM, it developed a reputation for Rhythm and Blues and Gospel programming targeting an African-American audience. Les Brown and Victor T. Curry were among its disc jockeys during this period. After a brief period as WSBH with a talk format in 1993, the station was purchased by New Birth Baptist Church in March 1995, returning to the WMBM call letters and a gospel format under the New Birth Broadcasting Corporation. Under the leadership of Bishop Victor T. Curry, who serves as President, General Manager, and CEO, the station has been recognized for its contributions, including receiving the 2007 Stellar Award Radio Station of the Year in a Large Market and being a finalist in 2012 and 2017. It was an early adopter of internet streaming, broadcasting live 24 hours via the internet starting in 1998, and launched a dedicated smartphone application in 2014 to provide worldwide access. As a black-owned and operated station, it has positioned itself as a significant media pillar in its community.
