KFWB (980 AM) is a commercial radio station broadcasting from Los Angeles, California, owned by Lotus Communications. The station currently airs a classic regional Mexican music format, serving the large Spanish-speaking population of the greater Los Angeles area. KFWB holds the distinction of being one of the longest continuously operating radio stations in the United States, having first signed on the air on March 3, 1925, launched by Sam Warner, a co-founder of Warner Bros. Studios. The original frequency was 950 kHz before the station settled on its current 980 AM position. The station's early years coincided with the Golden Age of Radio, during which it helped launch the careers of performers including Ronald Reagan, Alan Ladd, and Bing Crosby. KFWB was also the first station to broadcast the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena. In 1937, the station moved into a new purpose-built facility on the Warner Bros. lot, featuring six large studios, a 500-seat theater, and a custom-built multi-manual pipe organ for broadcasting. The Warner Bros. animation department incorporated KFWB as a running gag in numerous Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies productions. The station was part of Group W (later CBS Radio) from 1966 to 2016, spending five decades under that corporate umbrella. It transitioned to its current Mexican music format following the CBS Radio era. KFWB broadcasts with 5,000 watts of power from a non-directional antenna on North Indiana Avenue near Lincoln Park in Eastside Los Angeles, with studios and offices on Barham Boulevard near Universal City.
