Broadcasting at 107.7 MHz, this commercial country music station is licensed to Knoxville, Tennessee, and owned by Cumulus Media. It is one of the Knoxville radio market's consistently top-rated stations, typically ranked first or second in Nielsen Audio ratings. Studios are located on Old Kingston Pike in the Sequoyah Hills section of West Knoxville, while the transmitter sits atop Greentop Knob on Chilhowee Mountain near Pigeon Forge. The station also serves as an affiliate of the Vol Network, carrying University of Tennessee Volunteers football and basketball broadcasts. WIVK-FM signed on December 16, 1965, initially as a simulcast of co-owned WIVK 850 AM. The dual simulcast continued through multiple ownership changes: Dick Broadcasting held the stations through much of the 1980s and 1990s before Citadel Broadcasting acquired them in the early 2000s. Citadel subsequently merged into Cumulus Media in 2011. The AM simulcast ended in stages—WIVK 850 AM was donated to the University of Tennessee in September 1988 and became news/talk station WUTK, with the simulcast transferring briefly to 990 AM before that frequency also shifted to talk and sports programming in 1997. WIVK-FM has operated independently as a country station ever since.
