A non-commercial National Public Radio member station established on April 1, 1971, as the first full-time classical music broadcaster in Central Pennsylvania. Originally licensed to Hershey before relocating to Harrisburg in 1982, the station transitioned from classical and NPR programming to an all-news format in June 2012. Now operating 24 hours daily with syndicated NPR content supplemented by local news and cultural reporting, the station has earned regional recognition for investigative journalism, including awards for energy policy coverage and Edward R. Murrow recognition for broadcast excellence. Co-owned with a PBS member television station, it serves as the region's primary public media institution.
