A commercial AM radio station licensed to New Brunswick, New Jersey, operating at 1,450 kHz with 1,000 watts and branded as Fox Sports New Jersey. The station is owned by Beasley Broadcast Group through its subsidiary Beasley Media Group, LLC, and serves Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties. WCTC is considered New Jersey's first radio station constructed during the post-World War II broadcast expansion, having signed on December 12, 1946. Its call letters derive from the Chanticleer—the rooster from the medieval fable Reynard the Fox and the Canterbury Tales—which served as the Rutgers University mascot from 1925 to 1955. The station is the official radio home for Rutgers University athletic events and Somerset Patriots Minor League Baseball, and serves as a radio affiliate for the New York Knicks basketball and New York Rangers hockey franchises. Programming is also distributed via FM translator W228DY at 93.5 MHz in New Brunswick. The station's format history includes full-service middle-of-the-road programming through the 1980s, talk radio in the 1990s and 2000s, a brief return to oldies music from 2008 to 2011, and its current sports radio format. Beasley Media Group acquired WCTC as part of its $240 million purchase of Greater Media's 21 stations, approved by the FCC in 2016.
