Licensed to Flagstaff, Arizona, this AM station broadcasts at 600 kHz and operates a sports format, serving the greater Flagstaff area of northern Arizona. It is owned by Yavapai Broadcasting Corporation. The station is also carried on FM translator K284BO at 104.7 MHz, broadcasting from Mt. Elden and operating under the "Sunny 104.7" brand identity. The station's history dates to the early era of Flagstaff radio. Its predecessor, KEOS, launched in the 1950s under the slogan "Service in Sound in Northern Arizona," owned by Flagstaff businessman Jack Bird through Thunderbird Broadcasting Company. KEOS operated as a 1,000-watt daytime-only station on 1290 AM. The current 600 AM frequency was previously occupied by KGPH, which signed on December 6, 1950 from studios in the Weatherford Hotel, relocating from 1230 kHz to 690 in 1953. KGPH was acquired by part-owners of Phoenix's KOY in April 1956 and rebranded as KVNA. In June 1963, KVNA was sold to Frontier Television for $95,000 and subsequently went dark, with its license deleted in January 1965. KEOS then applied to occupy the superior 24-hour facilities, receiving approval in 1966 and moving to 690 kHz on September 8, 1969. The station later became KZKZ following a 1981 sale. After Communications Ltd. — led by Ed Raabe and Paul Seyler — purchased the station in 1986, the KVNA call letters were restored. The station has been granted an FCC construction permit to relocate its transmitter site and increase nighttime power.
