A commercial AM radio station broadcasting at 970 kHz and identified as North Dakota's oldest radio station, having first signed on the air in 1922. It is licensed to Fargo, North Dakota, and owned and operated by Flag Family Media alongside sister station WZFG. The station's transmitter site, featuring three towers, is located near 210th Street South in Barnesville, Minnesota, with studios on 8th Street South in Fargo. Operating at 10,000 watts, the daytime signal reaches the eastern half of North Dakota, west central Minnesota, northeastern South Dakota, and southern Manitoba. The station carries a news-talk format, with local weekday programs hosted by Bonnie Amistadi, Steve Hallstrom, Ronnie Lee, Janae White, and Jay Thomas. National programming has included shows from Ben Shapiro, Kim Komando, Gary Sullivan, Leo Laporte, Red Eye Radio, and Markley, Van Camp, and Robbins, supplemented by ABC News Radio updates. WDAY also simulcasts newscasts from Valley News Live. The station's origins date to May 23, 1922, when its first license was issued, making it North Dakota's inaugural broadcast station. For more than seven decades through 2025, co-ownership with WDAY-TV allowed the radio station to simulcast on the television outlet during emergencies, a capability that was exercised during the 2009 Red River floods. This arrangement ended when previous owner Forum Communications divested the station.
