A commercial talk radio station licensed to Fort Worth, Texas, and one of the oldest continuously operating radio stations in the state, having first broadcast on May 2, 1922. Owned by Cumulus Media, it operates as a Class A clear-channel station at 50,000 watts, transmitting from Mansfield and simulcasting with an FM counterpart at 93.3 in Haltom City. The station's origins date to a time when Texas stations were still assigned call signs beginning with "W" rather than "K." It began at a wavelength of 360 meters before settling through several frequency reassignments to its current position at 820 kHz. An early distinction was its WBAP cowbell audio logo, described by President Herbert Hoover as representing "We Bring A Program," though the call letters were in fact assigned sequentially. As a Class A clear-channel station, its nighttime signal reaches much of the Southern, Central, and Midwestern United States as well as portions of Northern Mexico. Its daytime coverage extends from the Oklahoma City area south to Austin. WBAP is one of two clear-channel stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, alongside Dallas-based KRLD. The station carries a designated role in emergency broadcasting, sharing responsibility with sister station KSCS for activating the North Texas Emergency Alert System during hazardous weather, disaster declarations, and child abduction alerts. Programming includes a morning news block and a midday show hosted by Jamie Markley, David Van Camp, and Scott Robbins.
