An adult contemporary radio station licensed to Windham, New York, serving the northern Catskill Mountains region and the Capital District. Owned and operated by Rip Radio LLC, the station broadcasts with 580 watts effective radiated power from a transmitter atop Windham Mountain on Cave Mountain at an elevation of 3,085 feet above sea level. A booster serves the Hunter and Tannersville area via nearby Hunter Mountain, and the station simulcasts on 97.5 MHz from Durham, New York, on 104.5 MHz from atop Mount Utsayantha near Stamford, and on 103.7 FM for the greater Catskill and Hudson area. The station first signed on in August 1999 as the first radio station in Greene County based outside the village of Catskill. Programming initially combined adult contemporary music on weekdays with oldies on weekends. The current format concentrates on AC hits from the 1980s, 1990s, and present day. Morning drive is hosted by Operations Manager Joe Loverro, and afternoon drive by President and General Manager Jay Fink. The station was significantly shaped by station manager Guy Patrick Garraghan, a longtime local resident who had spent 17 years at WCKL in Catskill before joining WRIP at its launch. Garraghan is credited with establishing local radio in the mountaintop region; he died in November 2010. Weekend specialty programming includes locally produced shows such as Friday Night Gold and syndicated offerings.
