About KWLS FM 107.9
KWLS FM 107.9 streams live from Wichita KS, United States, on Tuninga Radio.
This radio station offers diverse programming.
A classic country radio station serving the Wichita, Kansas metropolitan area and extending into northern Oklahoma. The frequency first signed on in 1980 as an adult contemporary outlet licensed to Winfield, Kansas, under the call letters KWKS. It changed its identity to KSOK-FM in 1995, then transitioned to an urban-formatted station under new ownership in 2000, operating as "Hot 107.9 Jamz" with the calls KSJM. The format launched with an Urban Adult Contemporary sound and carried the Tom Joyner Morning Show as a Wichita affiliate. Jazz programming was added in 2002 following the collapse of a local smooth jazz competitor. By 2004 the station shifted toward Urban Contemporary, incorporating hip-hop and picking up nationally syndicated morning talent. The transmitter's location near Winfield, more than 50 miles from Wichita, presented a persistent signal challenge that limited ratings in the larger market. In October 2007, amid declining revenues, ownership transferred to AG Network Group, which eventually rebranded the outlet as "US 107.9." The station later adopted its current classic country format under the call letters KWLS. Today it features local disc jockeys across weekdays and weekends, with specialty programming including a Cracker Barrel Time segment on weeknights and a Legends and Locals showcase on Friday evenings. The station also promotes live country music events at venues in the area.
