A public, noncommercial FM radio station licensed to Waco, Texas, serving the greater Brazos Valley region. Its FCC license is held by the Brazos Valley Public Broadcasting Foundation, a nonprofit organization in which Baylor University holds a majority of votes on the governing board. Programming draws heavily from National Public Radio, supplemented by Central Texas news and information updates, classical music in late mornings and evenings, jazz on weekends, and the BBC World Service overnight. The station first signed on March 15, 1966, as Baylor University's college radio station, originally broadcasting on 89.9 MHz before moving to 107.1 MHz. It joined NPR on July 1, 2000, a milestone that ended Waco's status as the largest radio market in the country without an NPR affiliate. The license was simultaneously transferred to the Brazos Valley Public Broadcasting Foundation. The station relocated to 103.3 MHz on June 10, 2001, and in 2003 became the first Waco radio station to broadcast an HD radio signal. A sister PBS television station, KWBU-TV, ceased operations in 2010 due to budget shortfalls, while the FM station continued broadcasting.
