In 1981, its broadcast power increased to 150 watts, extending its coverage to Traverse City and a six-mile radius. This expansion coincided with a growing community orientation, leading to increased participation from non-student volunteers and programming designed to serve the broader community. Further development occurred in 1997 when the station boosted its power to 600 watts and moved to its current frequency of 90.7 FM. This change significantly expanded its reach, allowing the signal to cover six counties in northwest Michigan: Grand Traverse, Wexford, Antrim, Leelanau, Benzie, and Charlevoix. The station is managed by a college employee who has been involved with the station since 2000, bringing experience in college and community radio dating back to 1987. Its schedule features a variety of programs, reflecting the diverse interests and expertise of its volunteer staff.
