The call sign WDAE was randomly assigned from a sequential roster available at the time. Over the following decades the station shifted frequencies multiple times, eventually settling at 640 AM before moving to its current 620 AM position. Today it operates under iHeartMedia ownership broadcasting a sports radio format. Licensed to St. Petersburg and serving the wider Tampa Bay region, the station transmits at up to 11,280 watts daytime under special temporary authority from the Federal Communications Commission, a grant first issued in 1983 to address interference from high-powered Cuban broadcasts on the same frequency.
