The station simulcasts a classic hits format alongside WSRQ 1220 AM, which is based near downtown Sarasota. Programming draws from the popular music of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The combined coverage area encompasses Hardee, DeSoto, and Highlands counties, serving communities including Wauchula, Zolfo Springs, Arcadia, Sebring, Avon Park, and Lake Placid. The station first signed on in November 1992 under the call sign WZZS. It subsequently operated as a contemporary country outlet branded as "106.9 The Bull" beginning in July 2005, and later carried a Spanish-language music format under the name "La Numero 1." Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Inc., which operates a campus in Bradenton near Sarasota, later acquired the station and converted it to a simulcast of WSRQ. The station is now branded as LECOM Radio. During the mid-1990s, a program called Canada Calling, hosted by Prior Smith, aired weekdays at 10 a.m. The station promotes and sponsors local cultural and theatrical events in the Sarasota area.
