The station received its construction permit from the Federal Communications Commission on November 30, 1984, initially under the call sign KNSS, assigned to Carson City Broadcasters. It signed on as KBUL shortly thereafter, adopting call letters reflecting its country music identity. Marathon Broadcasting held early ownership, with Dave Graupner serving as general manager during that period. Citadel Broadcasting acquired the station in 1992. Following Citadel's merger with Cumulus Media in 2011, the station temporarily rebranded as Nash FM on October 16, 2015, aligning with Cumulus's Nash country radio platform used across multiple markets. It subsequently returned to the K-BULL identity and branding. The station remains part of the Cumulus Media portfolio.
