A listener-supported, non-profit FM broadcast radio station operating at 89.1 MHz on the Tualatin Mountains transmitter site. The station has been serving the Pacific Northwest community with jazz and blues programming since 1984, relying predominantly on volunteer announcers — many of them prominent local musicians and broadcasters — throughout its history. Originally established with its studio on the Mt. Hood Community College campus in Gresham, Oregon, the station is owned by Mt. Hood Community College, though it has never been formally integrated into the college's radio broadcasting educational curriculum. In March 2009, the Mt. Hood Community College District Board of Education voted to transfer programming, operational, and fundraising responsibilities to Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) in response to cuts in state funding. The transfer took effect on August 10, 2009. Programming now originates from OPB's Portland studios, though the station retains its original call letters, broadcast frequency, and institutional ownership. Beyond its primary 89.1 broadcast signal, the station simulcasts on an HD digital channel and through streaming audio on its website. Its main programming is also carried on OPB-FM's HD3 subchannel and on the SAP audio channel 3 of OPB-TV digital subchannel 4. Listeners in the Bend area can access the programming via KOAB 91.3 FM on its HD2 subchannel. A secondary digital stream, branded as KMHD2 on the HD2 subchannel, previously offered a college radio format featuring hip hop, rock, metal, world, and indie music blocks, and at one point carried programming from local station KZME after it ceased broadcasting on 91.5 FM.
