KLNZ is a commercial FM radio station broadcasting at 103.5 MHz, licensed to Glendale, Arizona, and serving the Phoenix metropolitan area. It is owned by Entravision Communications and operates under the brand name "La Tricolor 103.5," a name referencing the three colors of the Mexican flag. The station broadcasts a regional Mexican format, drawing primarily from Entravision's California-based Radio Tricolor network. Studios are located near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. KLNZ is classified as an FCC Class C station with an effective radiated power of 48,000 watts. Its transmitter is located off North Tower Road in Buckeye, among the White Tank Mountains west of Phoenix. The station transmits using HD Radio technology; its HD2 digital subchannel carries the Spanish adult hits format of sister station KVVA-FM at 107.1. The frequency at 103.5 FM has a history extending back to May 18, 1994, when it signed on as KTWC under an eclectic oldies format covering music from the 1950s through the 1980s, owned by Newmountain II Broadcasting of Phoenix. The station changed hands and formats several times over subsequent years, operating as smooth jazz outlet KOAZ starting in May 1996, then as contemporary country station KWCY beginning in September 1997 following a joint acquisition by MAC America Communications and Owens Broadcasting — the latter headed by country singer and television personality Buck Owens.
